Soheyl Bastami
Soheyl Bastami is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist. Born in Iran in 1987, he holds a degree in Graphic Design. From the beginning, he had an interest in sculptures, where finally in 2009, he taught himself how to create sculptures out of wood and metal. Most of his sculptures are figurative, where he focuses on works that show humans in their basic forms, hunting for knowledge about the world and themselves.
After many group exhibitions across Iran, he held his first solo exhibition in Tehran (E1 Art Gallery) in 2016 and the second one in Toronto (Sahar K.Blouki Gallery) in 2021. He has attended several international symposiums and group exhibitions worldwide, where he collected several awards for his sculptures. Some of his sculptures are installed in a number of cities in Iran, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and the Czech Republic, where the public can still visit them.
Through all of his exhibitions, he has collected several prestigious awards, such as second place in the International Contemporary Sculpture in Iran (Padideh) 2014, the special prize in the International Wood Sculpture Symposium in Italy (Castello Tesino) 2017, a Biafarin prize in NordArt 2017, and the first place in the International Wood Sculpture Symposium in the Czech Republic 2018, to name a few.
